Success Stories
His classes are dynamic and engaging, and he is able to keep the attention of any middle schooler. Curtis goes beyond teaching content, developing different “learn how to learn” strategies that emphasize critical thinking skills. He is very detailed oriented; he always takes notes of the work done during the class and shares them by e-mail. He is a caring teacher, who often sends follow up e-mails with suggestions and advice for the week. We are very pleased to have Curtis as our son’s tutor. Most importantly, our son enjoys the class, he feels more confident, and his grades are improving!

“Great Tutor with extreme patience and creative thinking!”
Curtis is extremely patient and did an incredible job connecting with my daughters. He is very thorough and easy to work with and goes out of his way to be available when needed. He has a well-structured approach which considers their individual needs. He explains problems clearly, quickly identifying where help was needed most, and developed constructive strategies for success. They both really enjoy him and actually look forward to their SAT review sessions! We are very happy with our choice of a tutor!

“Highly recommended by father of a college sophomore”
As a father of a college sophomore, I highly recommend Curtis! I sincerely appreciate Curtis’ upbeat attitude, the time he invests to understand the complete list of issues associated with the project and his responsiveness. Curtis delved into the project, performed his own research and provided invaluable study and presentation tools. Clearly an outstanding tutor.

Curtis has been a great Spanish tutor for my son, a sophomore in high school, who is taking a tough Spanish class. He's been flexible about scheduling and really helped my son gain confidence. I would highly recommend him as a tutor.

“Great Spanish Tutor”
Within the first 10 minutes of meeting my eldest son, he was in tune to how he is wired. He had many tips for him right away that were simple and effective. He takes the time to learn how an individual learns and customizes his support for each. He makes learning fun and engaging. The time flies by for the kids. No more dreading time with a tutor. We are blessed that he is supporting our kids and soon to be helping our youngest as well!! We highly recommend Curtis.

“Curtis is truly the teen whisperer”
“There is nobody that I trust more than Curtis to educate the future leaders of our society.”
Curtis is kind, patient and flexible. I think the last one is especially important when teaching young children. Nobody learns the same way. Some are auditory learners. Some are visual learners. Curtis can adapt to anyone and get the message across. Students need someone to believe in them. They need a wiser and older person to put stock in their abilities. Someone who sets the bar high (but not too high) and then create an environment where it’s okay to fail. Students need encouragement yes, but real encouragement. It does no good to praise their work when you know it is only, say, 50% of what they are capable of. You don’t want to create an environment where there is no praise or recognition; you want to create one where the praise that you offer is valuable because you use it judiciously. This is what Curtis is all about and why he is so, so good at what he does.

Curtis has been tutoring my teen for SAT prep and college essays for the last six months. To call his tutoring skills excellent is an UNDERSTATEMENT. We interviewed several tutors prior to Curtis. My teen left each meeting underwhelmed, annoyed, and more stressed after each one. They felt lectured and as if they were hearing the monotone teachings of a lifetime sub.
Within five minutes of meeting Curtis, they turned to me with excitement in their eyes. “Him. He’s the one. He’s going to make this actually fun!”
And did he ever. Seriously, has your 17 year old ever wanted MORE tutoring? No. Doesn’t happen.
Well it did. Curtis listens, doesn’t give cookie cutter instructions, and somehow makes testing prep fun. He got to know my quirky teen and was able to connect with them on their level.
And their scores prove it.
In fact, now that we are done with the SAT, Curtis is now working with them on their essays.
He is a phenomenal listener, guide, teacher, ally.
I wish we had hired him before senior year. He has been crucial in our college and learning process.
He is super quirky and not your same ole boring teacher. He’s funny, even a little strange. And we adore him.
Trust me. He’s a godsend.

Our son dug himself a big hole in Spanish class. He was halfway through the semester, and his grade was a D-. Curtis helped him finish the year with a B- and with only six weeks left to rescue the grade. Curtis made learning Spanish fun. By using age-appropriate (15-year-old boy) examples and a lighthearted, casual approach, he made our son feel comfortable and relaxed; our son seemed to enjoy and appreciate learning a language. His teacher noticed as well, mentioning how much more engaged and confident he became in class, and his homework was always on time and done well. Our son worked really hard using the tools and tips Curtis gave him. We are thrilled with the Spanish grade and for his new appreciation for studying hard and seeing the result of hard work. Thank you, Curtis!
