Boosting Academic & Professional Skills
CurtisE SAT Prep enhances success not just with the exam but also with academic and professional skills.
Succeeding on the SAT is not simply a “brute force” exercise, hammering away at practice tests and learning the exam’s intentional tricks, but requires understanding the tested concepts and skills. CurtisE Learning addresses any skill or knowledge needs while strengthening test-taking ability. Whether digging into uses of the semicolon, analyzing a selection from the Federalist Papers, or tackling quadratic equations, our tutors ensure your student masters the fundamentals that will increase both SAT scores, school grades, and academic confidence. Our students keep their eyes on the ball- SAT scores can count for 25% to 35% of a college admissions decision, but GPA accounts for at least 50%.
SAT Tricks and Pitfalls
Clocking in at THREE HOURS, the SAT is likely the most extended exam anyone will take. An essential part of our program is alleviating anxiety to maintain focus and “control” the test. Students learn to recognize common tricks and traps on the SAT. Often, the SAT asks questions less-than-straightforwardly (and presents answer choices with confusing language), so understanding the SAT “playbook” is essential. CurtisE student scores are exceptional as students learn subject material and critical strategies that ensure they have the advantage.

When to Start SAT Prep
Most students target taking the SAT in the spring of junior year, although there are other dates to retake it before college applications are due. Many students begin SAT Prep during their sophomore year, but most start preparing a year or more before their target exam date. We aim to have the student consistently perform at the desired level within a month before “the one that counts” test date. Depending on school application goals and practice test/PSAT data, it’s advisable to backward plan from your goal. Superscoring opportunities with multiple test dates are considered.
Generally, starting prep during the summer before junior year is recommended. However, some students should consider starting earlier if they:
want to get a jumpstart (particularly in mastering all SAT math concepts and evidence-based reading skills)
struggle with testing (our techniques apply to all standardized tests)
are heavily scheduled during the summer.

About the SAT
First introduced in 1926, the SAT is a standardized test for college admissions to assess students’ preparedness for college. Scores are also used to award student scholarships and grants.
The SAT is owned and governed by the College Board, a not-for-profit organization.
New changes in 2021: The test will no longer offer the essay portion. Also, the College Board will discontinue SAT subject tests to defer to AP courses and tests for consideration.
